What was your business plan like when you created it? Mine was inside a pink notebook written in ink in 2001. I wrote it after getting laid off from a webmaster/unix system administrator job. Unfortunately, the company shut down. I didn’t have a printer at the time, just a Macintosh G4 computer that the company I worked for sold to me for cheap and an Internet connection.
I was determined to make a ton of money. I didn’t know what I was doing. I tried many different projects and CMS systems. I mostly ran the CMS so that people could chat with each other while I did tech work installing computers at people’s homes and developed websites. As time went on, times changed. My company didn’t come to full bloom until 2009 when I started actually making money. I wasn’t thinking in terms of big Internet sites at the time, just how I could display my company name in the open while I worked.
I had my logo made during that time and continued to work. I’m now sharing what I know about making money with a CMS system which is now pretty much a blog. While I had geekmom.net going for some time, I also have several other blogs that I run under the geekmom company. These blogs make me a nice sum of money through affiliate programs and direct marketing. It isn’t until now that I’ve decide to spill my “secrets”.
I’m also diving into other bigger agendas and finding my “thing” under the geekmom name. I will continue to grow and become as big as some of the others. There is no question of if, the question is when.
Now there have been others to use my name over the years and it’s real frustrating to see this because this is my brand and has been for at least 14 years. I won’t quit though and I will continue to grow until I have what I want.
Is that the way you feel about your business? It should be. If you have this attitude you will succeed, it’s just a matter of time.
