If you really want to get fired then by all means, go ahead and tell everyone on facebook that you hate your boss and your job sucks for if you do then your boss could very well see it and fire you.
Can your boss legally fire you for that reason? Why not? He can certainly use your personality to hire you and if he doesn’t like what you say to your closest friends, especially about him, then why shouldn’t he?
Is it a question of freedom of speech? No. In fact, if what you say isn’t true then you could very well be sued for libel. If it is true then it is your responsibility to prove that what you said is true which is sometimes more difficult than some people think. And yet still, I would hope that a boss can still fire and employee for not holding up to company standards. Spreading rumors about another person whether true or not does look bad for the company.
Is it a question of privacy? No. The moment you let it out in to the open on a site like facebook you have agreed to give up your right to privacy. While you still own the text you have given them permission to print it. Just as Matjamela Motluong about his little quip against Jewish producers in South Africa.
Would I fire someone for saying something on facebook? Not necessarily, but I wouldn’t want my company name attached to his profile either. I believe people have opinions and although I might not agree or respect their opinions, I do believe in their right to say them. What I don’t believe in is having my company named attached to it. So say what you want, just don’t tell people you work for me either.
